Welcome and Introduction
First off, thank you for being here. This marks the first post for my blog—a milestone that feels both exciting and surreal. I’ve never had a blog before because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to share. But now, with the launch of my personal website, stevehelgrr.com, I’ve found the perfect platform to express my ideas, interests, and experiences. This space allows me to fully explore and share the many facets of my life—business, creativity, politics, and more—without the constraints of social media’s broad and fragmented audience.
Why This Blog Exists
On social media, everyone is there for different reasons, and while they might follow you for one thing, they may not resonate with everything you share. That’s why I felt reserved about discussing all my interests online. But this website empowers me to dive deep into the things I’m passionate about—business, creativity, and even niche topics that may not appeal to everyone but are incredibly meaningful to me.
The Business Side of Me
Business is a vast and fascinating world, and my interests within it are just as broad. For me, it’s not just about marketing or selling—though I respect those aspects. It’s about:
Deal-making: The art of creating something out of nothing.
Building relationships: Connecting with people on meaningful levels.
Managing human capital: Understanding the value people bring to every aspect of a business.
While marketing plays an important role in reaching the right audience, I’ve always felt a bit conflicted about its methods. The depth of data collection and personal profiling in modern marketing can feel intrusive to me. It’s not about weakness but about my preference to focus on the structural and relational aspects of business rather than the intricacies of behavioral data.
A Builder at Heart
Growing up, I loved playing SimCity. I was captivated by the challenge of creating a self-sustaining system where everything worked together harmoniously. Whether it was:
Traffic flow
Education systems
Fire departments
I loved seeing how each element connected to the next. That love for building and optimizing systems translates directly into how I view life, business, and even AV.
Why AV Captivates Me
The AV world is a microcosm of that interconnected system I loved in SimCity. Every department in an AV event—from lighting to sound to content production—works together to create a seamless experience. The value AV brings to events isn’t just technical; it’s deeply human. In-person events enable:
Networking
Idea-sharing
Collaboration
Problem-solving
These are things that virtual meetings simply can’t replicate.
When you’re face-to-face, it’s not just about exchanging ideas; it’s about the charisma, confidence, and intelligence that people display in real time. This authenticity and immediacy are why I’m such a passionate advocate for in-person events, especially corporate ones.
Inside the Room
As a video engineer and technical director, I’ve had the privilege of being in the room during high-level strategy meetings. While I’m there to ensure the technology runs smoothly, I often find myself passively engaging with the content. Hearing the frameworks and methodologies that drive major business decisions is both fascinating and inspiring. It’s a front-row seat to the interplay of:
Strategy
Leadership
Innovation
Looking Forward
This blog is just the beginning. Through stevehelgrr.com, I hope to explore these ideas more deeply and share them with a community of like-minded individuals. Whether you’re here for the business insights, the creative musings, or just to see the world through my lens, I’m excited to have you along for the journey.
Thank you for joining me in this moment of creation. This is just the start, and I’m eager to see where this path leads. Let’s build something incredible together.
